Baby it’s cold outside -

Six more weeks of winter says the groundhog.  I think I have at LEAST six more weeks of touring in me, even if I have to deal with some of the harsh winter weather old Pete has predicted.

Since I played only a handful of shows in January, I took advantage of a night off to get out and support some of my friends as well as to check out a great new venue here in Buffalo, The Daily Planet Coffee Co.  I will admit however, that a week earlier, slick roads did alter plans for one evening and forced us into a “beer, pizza and Netflix night”.  Not a painful way to spend a winter night, and much safer than a white knuckle drive on black ice, even in my Subaru!

With the football season behind us, despite the wintry weather, now is as good a time as ever to get out and support the arts in your community.  There are plenty of ways to do this, and it doesn’t have to necessarily be in the form of buying a ticket for a major event.  Whether it’s attending a poetry reading, an opening at a small art gallery, or stopping by your favorite coffee shop to listen to a set of music by a local songwriter, you ARE supporting the arts in your town!!!  Plus, it gets you off the sofa, off of Facebook, away from the TV, out for some fresh air and in the company of other people.  You may even run into a friend or two, or even make some new ones!

“No Passengers” keeps riding along……

In addition to the honor of being recognized by DJ’s at several radio stations around the country as a  “Best of/Favorite CD” of 2014, “No Passengers” received two more honors since my last newsletter.  These come in the form of being named one of the Top 30 CD’s of 2014 by Al Kniola and Norm Mast, hosts of “The Back Porch” on WVPE in Elkhart, IN and “No Passengers” was included among the Roots Music Reports Top 100 Contemporary Folk Albums of 2014 with a ranking of number 12.  All of these accolades have not only surprised me, by my co-producer Neale Eckstein as well.  So much to the point where Neale has now nicknamed it “the little EP that could”.   The success of this 7 song EP that was recorded over the period of a day has truly exceeded my expectations.  I feel honored and humbled to be included on these lists, among some incredible artists that I respect and admire the work of.

Pencil me in…..

After performing 121 dates in 2014, I didn’t know if it was possible to achieve or exceed that number in 2015, but with close to 60 dates booked already, it may be a record year.   One of the nice side effects of the success of “No Passengers” is that I’m booking better quality shows, at better venues such as listening rooms, house concerts and I have already been invited to perform at the wonderful Roots on the River Festival on June 5th in Bellows Falls, VT.  This is a long running festival which boasts an incredible lineup of Folk, Roots and Americana artists this year, including Mary Gauthier, John Fullbright, The Black Lillies, and Sam Baker.  Once again, I am honored to have received the invitation and to be included in the 2015 roster of artists.

With that said, let’s take a look at the schedule for February.  This month includes the continuation of my “First Wednesday” at Hamburg Brewing (wonderful craft beer folks!), a return to one of my all time favorite venues, The Barking Spider in Cleveland, OH, a long overdue return to perform at one of the finest listening room venues in the northeast, Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, PA, and my first time at a fine new listening room in East Aurora, NY, 189 Public House.

I look forward to seeing YOU – warm and cozy in your favorite venue, supporting the arts by listening to live, independent music!!!  I thank you for your continuing support!  At this time of year, I strongly advise that you please check with the venue before heading out to make sure that the show you are planning to attend has not been cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Happy Valentine’s Day - I hope that you are able to celebrate with the one you love!!!  See you soon! - Davey
