The Rolling Hands of Time…

It is hard to believe that it is the middle of August already.  August and feeling like late September with temps in the high 50’s upon daybreak, highs in the mid to high 60’s as I write this.  Where did the Summer go?  We are only about two weeks from Labor Day Weekend, the start of another school year, another season of football…

It is true that being busy does make time “seem” to go by more quickly.  For example, I have always noticed that when my live date calendar is full, a month will fly by in the proverbial blink of an eye.  And that is what is exactly happening with August – I have been looking forward with great anticipation to performing at this year’s Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts on Sunday, August 25th in my hometown of Buffalo, NY.  This date is almost upon us!!!!  It’s a week from this Sunday and I cannot believe this date that was confirmed in May is almost here.  May seems like it was a only few weeks ago – May was when I went to Texas to perform as a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival and that experience is still there, lingering freshly on my mind.  And now I’m a little over a week away from the Elmwood Festival, with September peeking around the corner!!!!

When looking at my calendar as the dates come and go, it seems like I am living a life of “connecting the dots” and before I realize it, another month has swiftly passed, then another Summer, another Fall……  Christmas and certainly another New Year cannot be far behind!!!  This “connect the dots” life is never more evident than when I’m actually booking shows and I open up a tab on my computer to Mapquest so that I can chart out the dates I have to see when I can route to or from an open date on my schedule.  The cities and towns have become the “dots” that connect me not only in my travels from one to show to the next, but briefly to the people who have come out to the show and to the other artists I might be on the bill with that evening.  Experiences to be made the most of and ones that can never be duplicated or replaced.

In a grander sense, when I look at a map and chart out where I’ll be touring, the dots take on a bigger role – they become a constellation of stars that shine brightly in the sky of my life as an artist and guide me through this wonderful, enriching journey.  And time indeed, rolls on…….
